Rogerthomas debuts beautiful trippy new video
Rogerthomas has a new music video that demands your attention. And it does so in the most unusual fashion. Start with a beautiful and reasonably obscure ballad by the Carpenters (no, I didn’t stutter), overhaul the tune almost completely with ethereal, trippy bass, drums and synths, and sync that with an equally beautiful and trip video by Nymania Productions, and you have “Now.”
There is no mistaking the direction the song will take as it opens with a spacy intro played backward, then settles into its laid-back groove. Karen Carpenter’s voice isn’t apparent until near the end of the song, and when it does it fits the tune perfectly.
Also perfect is the video accompaniment. Much of it is shot from a car, with a fisheye lens, facing blue skyward. The drive weaves its way through palm trees and buildings. When a horizontal view finally surfaces, it is superimposed over the vertical shot. It drifts somewhere between a trip and a dream, simply gorgeous.
This is a welcome addition from Rogerthomas, whose superb previous recordings include A Chrysalis under the name Ophelia. This promises to be the tip of a new musical iceberg. He will play Saturday, November 28th, at Don’t Stop St. Petersburg. Check out the video here.
