Third annual Oaktopia Music & Arts Festival will bring Edward Sharpe, Minus The Bear, & Thundercat to Denton TX

Oaktopia Music and Arts Festival, the grassroots Denton startup, is back for its third year. Building on the blueprint set out in years one and two, the fest will take over nearly every venue in Downtown Denton and an entire block of Hickory St. “We’re focusing on bringing more than just a music fest to Denton. We want to transform Downtown Denton into a living, breathing piece of art.” says Matt Battaglia, Oaktopia’s Founder and Director. “There will always be some surprises for attendees,” adds Battaglia.

Oaktopia 2015’s iteration promises a wider variety of musical genres and daytime programming. They’re delivering on that promise by booking acts such as Minus the Bear, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, and Thundercat on two main stages. During the day there will be standup comedy, panels on a range of subjects, and activities like cornhole tournaments and popup shows.

Brent Camp, CoOwner of festival promoters Monocle, Inc. says, “It’s been exciting to see the growth of Oaktopia and what it means to Denton.” Oaktopia prides itself on being by Denton, for Denton. It seems that they’re staying true to that mentality. The festival’s largest sponsors are LSA Burger Co. and Audacity Brew House, both Denton-based businesses. “It’s such an organic feeling to see a music festival grow from the ground, to the high standards Oaktopia has set as an organization for the youth by the youth. Yet this is only the beginning for the fest; I can only hope to continue to be a part of the story.”
