Must-See Undercard Acts at Bellwether Festival

One of Ohio’s most notable indie-rock festivals returns to Renaissance Park in Waynesville, Ohio, August 9-10. Headliners include Beach House, Cake, Cold War Kids, and Guided by Voices, but there are a few undercard acts that I am particularly excited to see live. Undercard acts at a music festival are what help fill the day with awesome tunes and help people stay energized with good vibes flowing throughout the day.
Katie Pruitt
One of my top artists to watch out for is definitely Katie Pruitt. Originally from Atlanta, Katie took her fiercely Southern sound and moved it to Nashville. With no official album out yet, it doesn’t surprise me that she has been seen on a couple of music fest lineups this year. Her raspy, soulful voice captivates you as she passionately sings her songs about modern-day love and darkness, leaving you with chills.

Caroline Rose
The indie-pop world has been exploding with new female voices, and one of those standout voices is Caroline Rose. Her satirical lyrics about the scarier things in life are sung with a lighthearted tone, backed with poppy beats, making her “dark” songs sound delightful. Caroline has mentioned her biggest influences being David Lynch and Wes Anderson, which are not much of a surprise after hearing the contrast of her lyrical meanings and quirky sound.

Black Moth Super Rainbow
If you are feeling a little adventurous, this experimental psych band just might be for you. With the use of heavy synthesizers and gritty effects, Black Moth Super Rainbow creates a strange, almost disorienting journey for listeners. Black Moth Super Rainbow may not be everyone’s cup of psychedelic tea, but they manage to leave me curious for more.

Frederick the Younger
Straight out of Cleveland, Frederick the Younger brings a refreshing taste to the local music scene. For a Northern Ohio city band, they manage to create an interesting West Coast vibe that contains a hint of inspiration from ’60s soul. Jenni Cochran’s dream-pop voice mixed with a garage-rock sound offers listeners a playful experience that makes you want to get up, dance around and feel alive.
