Doors Tribute “The Soft Parade” – The Brett Andress Review!

We here at MusicFestNews are pretty fond of our words (perhaps an understatement). And then there are times when we gladly yield to other observers.

In this instance, the other observer is Brett Andress, the music-loving proprietor of The Ale and the Witch, a wonderful taproom in downtown St. Petersburg, where music flourishes out in the courtyard more than 300 times each year, all with no cover charge. Here is Andress speaking about “The Soft Parade: A Tribute to Jim Morrison on his 75th Birthday.” This show (Saturday, December 8th) was curated by singer and guitarist George Pennington III and Bungalow Entertainment, and it was a raging success. But you don’t have to take our word for it! (bah DUM DUM!)

Andress also sent this message to Pennington after Pennington sent him sincere thanks for hosting the event:

“George, it was an absolute honor to be part of something so special like this. Hard work by so many people involved made it such an incredible experience that I too will always remember. Keep having fun and keep doing what your passions drive you forward to do with the great people around you.”

Opening the program were students from Chris Sgammato’s music school!

The band put together by Pennington, as a follow-up to his wildly successful “Scream of the Butterfly: A Tribute to Jim Morrison and The Doors,” were: Levi Foe as Ray Manzarek, playing keyboards and singing, Michael Nevins as guitarist Robby Krieger, Vinny Svoboda as bassist Jerry Scheff, and Tucker Sody as drummer John Densmore. To fill out the sound: Richard Saez, trumpet; Bradlee Brown, trumpet; Joseph Kelemen, tuba and trombone, and Bella Toro, vocals. Pennington of course played the role of Jim Morrison.
