Rain, Mud, and Lots of Bass: Moonrise Festival Overcomes All Odds as Baltimore’s Best EDM Event of Summer!
Steez Promo’s Moonrise Festival made its return to Pimlico Race Course for its fifth consecutive year August 11-12, and it proved to be one of the most fun EDM events that I’ve experienced all season.
Despite Mother Nature’s threats of lightning storms and two weather-related evacuations, Moonrise outdid itself this year by pulling through with an absolutely STACKED roster of artists for this whirlwind of a weekend. The lineup featured electronic heavyweights such as Diplo, Excision, Zeds Dead, and Rezz, along with support from smaller acts such as Maddy O’Neal, Grandon, GG Magree and Two Friends.
In addition to the incredible artists, another aspect of Moonrise that stood out this year was the production design. Going along with the event’s underlying outer space theme, all four stages (Lunar, Solar Tent, Stellar, and Celestial) had their own distinct set-up and sound. Love that heavy dubstep? Go rock out in the Solar Tent. Looking for headliners? Bring your squad over to Stellar or Lunar. Whether it was your first Moonrise or your millionth, there was something for everyone.
Of course, massive festivals such as Moonrise wouldn’t be possible without their staff or patrons, and the ones at this year’s were, in a nutshell, on point. Crowds for both days were all smiles and had no problem losing themselves to the beat of the music, and every stage had the STAR team (Moonrise volunteers) manning the rail with fresh water to keep everyone happy and hydrated.
As far as food vendors go, I have these three words: Spicy. Effing. Pie (If you don’t know, now you know).
To sum it up, Moonrise Festival was a fun, headbang-worthy time, and we’ll definitely be back for liftoff next year.
