Rock n Roll Resort v5: Electric Avenue is the perfect way for any music lover to get their summer started right up North. After a brutally cold winter on the East Coast, we could not be more excited for summer to arrive, filled with amazing music and life-long memories. The Resort, which runs from April 30th to May 3rd , brings a plethora of the scenes’ top jam and reggae artists under the confines of one roof. The Hudson Valley Resort and Spa in Kerhonkson, NY will become home to over 50 bands and their fans for the weekend as they close their doors to the public. Imagine all the likes of a conventional music festival, but replace your tent with a room, your community hose with a shower and that hard, uneven ground for a hotel bed ready to be sunk into after a long day of dancing. Oh yeah and don’t forget, a bathroom of your own. Although I love the outdoor festivals, the Resort sounds like a dream come true, even before taking the lineup into consideration. Each of the days has its own theme, like previous years “Super Hero’s vs. Villains.” This year Rock n Roll Resort, the 5th of its kind, holds a genuine mix of top reggae artist like pioneers Fishbone and Easy Star All-Stars as well as the up and coming next generation of jam artist like Twiddle, The Werks, Consider the Source and a whole lot more. A deeper look into the lineup excites with festival favorites Sophistafunk, Dangermuffin, and Lucid.
For the cost of admission to the Resort, starting at $220 for 2 days, you will have your entire weekend getaway covered. Depending on the package you choose, you will receive a full general admission ticket for the days your choose, a room in the hotel (which is open only to festival goers and artists alike) and meals for each day, making your stay as effortless as possible. Rock n Roll Resort and Wicked Cool Productions opened a door of opportunity to anyone who thought they deserved to join a lineup so killer. They are not only giving one band an opportunity to play at The Resort but three. Holding “The Road to The Resort” a battle of the bands type of competition, The Resort is giving away three set times to bands in First, Second and Third place.The competition, starting in a Blitz round, will give artist an opportunity to show their skills and improvisation to a panel of judges along with the crowds tally to weed out the bands that the judges as well as the fans feel do not fill the bill for RRR moving the talent along to the next round, a battle. The Battle round will give 45 minutes to each band that made it through the Blitz and will be judged on: the audience vote, the professionalism of their presentation and material, originality and a door tally, so bring your fans! Next the bands will participate in the Local Finals, which takes a top seed from each night of the Battle rounds and faces them off for a chance to move on to the final round, the Regional Finals. To get to the Regional Finals, you must win your Local Finals which are taking place at 1 of 4 locations. The locations for RTTR are Boston at Bella Luna, Northhampton at Bishops, Connecticut at B.R.Y.A.C. and Putnam Den for NY, four great venues that are sure to put on rounds and rounds of great music for a great cause.
