Soulive Brings the Funk to Night 3 of Bowlive
Bowlive VI kicked into high gear on Saturday as a sold-out crowd filled into the Brooklyn Bowl for the extremely anticipated night 3. Cabinet started the night off right with their high energy Bluegrass-Americana sound, which got the crowd dancing immediately. I hadn’t seen Cabinet since their Grateful Dead set at Catskill Chill this past September, and their original material did not disappoint. Cabinet has such a unique sound; they range from heavy banjo bluegrass that we hear in ‘Susquehanna Breakdown’ to skanky reggae-inspired tracks like ‘The Dove’. Their dynamic set left the crowd energized and ready to dance.
Soulive did not disappoint, bringing the funk and soul they are known for to the Brooklyn Bowl stage for the 3rd night of their highly anticipated yearly Bowlive event. Night 3’s scheduled guests were just amazing as they were anticipated to be, Sam Kininger was wailing on the Alto Sax throughout nearly the entire set which was an incredible addition to the already dynamic horns section that was made up of Ryan Zoidis and Eric Bloom of The Shady Horns. The crowd also got treated to the surprise appearances of Bob Reynolds, Chris Bullock & Mike Maher of Snarky Puppy joining in the section. Jennifer Hartswick who graced the audience with her presence during the second set brought not only her impassioned vocals, but also her badass Trumpet skills. Ryan Zoidis and Eric Bloom of The Shady Horns were the backbone of the horns section and the crowd also got treated to the surprise appearances of Bob Reynolds, Chris Bullock & Mike Maher of Snarky Puppy joining in the section. These guests helped highlight an amazing set and everything we love about Soulive. There was not a moment during their time on stage where everyone in the crowd was not dancing and cheering. We can’t wait to see what the rest of Bowlive VI brings to the Brooklyn Bowl, and even more so what they will do with Bowlive in the future.
