Brooklyn Comes Alive Continues to Announce this Year’s Special Tributes and Collaborations!
Brooklyn Comes Alive is getting us pumped as they roll out announcements of epic supergroup performances and tribute sets. Exclusive collaborations are always highly anticipated and play a big role in the buzz surrounding the festival. Members of our favorite jambands coming together for two days to play special sets that are unlikely to be replicated anywhere else? Count us in!
This year we lost the iconic Gregg Allman and his fellow founding member of The Allman Brothers Band, Butch Trucks. The tribute that the festival has planned, entitled “The Road Goes on Forever: Celebrating the Music of The Allman Brothers Band,” is made all the more necessary in the wake of such profound losses. Members of Umphrey’s McGee, moe., the Gregg Allman Band, Snarky Puppy and teenaged guitar prodigy Brandon “Taz” Niederauer will pay their respects on stage and honor the undeniable impact that The Allman Brothers Band has left on music.
Seasoned greats such as Joel Cummins and Kris Meyers of Umphrey’s McGee, Al Schnier and Vinnie Amico of moe., Nate Werth of Snarky Puppy and Gregg Allman band members Brett Bass and Scott Sharrard will undoubtedly do The Allman Brothers Band justice. Particularly touching is the inclusion of young Niederauer, a fourteen-year-old with an old soul and mind-blowing guitar talent. Neiderauer was mentored by both Allman and Trucks and had the opportunity to join his heroes on stage before their passing.
During the late ’90s, British dance-funk band Jamiroquai invaded US radio stations, thanks in particular to the futuristic pop single “Virtual Insanity.” The band released the album Automaton in March of this year, but their success in the states has remained largely moderate since the “Virtual Insanity” insanity. Nevertheless, their American cult following is strong, and their popularity in Europe carries on.
Members of The Motet, Trey Anastasio Band, RAQ and Electric Beethoven will be bringing the funk, Jamiroquai-style, to Brooklyn Comes Alive. “A Tribute to Jamiroquai” is going to be a heck of a throwback for many. Dancing shoes are a must.
The festival has also made two tremendous supergroup announcements in recent days. Soulive and Lettuce guitarist Eric Krasno will be joined by a most impressive list of his musical colleagues including the legendary jazz-funk-blues guitarist John Scofield, Cyril Neville, Nigel Hall, Louis Cato, Chris Loftlin and very special guest George Porter, Jr. Between the New Orleans influence that Neville and Porter are sure to bring to the group and the guitar genius of both Krasno and Scofield, we can’t wait to see what this talented crew is going to create on stage.
Most recently, Brooklyn Comes Alive announced news of a collaboration between moe. and Aqueous, aptly titled moe.Queous. This exciting superjam will feature Mike Gantzer, Dave Loss, Evan McPhaden and Rob Houk of Aqueous teaming up with moe. guitarist Al Schnier and drummer Vinnie Amico. The one-of-a-kind experience will be chock full of moe. songs and Aqueous songs as well as covers. This supergroup just seems meant to be.
In order to fit all of this wonderful madness into one festival, the event has expanded to two days. Brooklyn will come alive on September 23 and 24 at Brooklyn Bowl, The Hall at MP and Music Hall of Williamsburg. Tickets are available right now! Grab yours here.
