Okeechobee Music Festival Announces Once-In-A-Lifetime PoWoW! Lineup
The question is, where else in the world could you find a jam performance such as Michael McDonald, Gallant, and Vulfpeck, with support from saxophonist/DJ GRiZ, Lettuce/SoulLive everyman Eric Krasno, Antwaun Stanley, and members of Snarky Puppy?
For those making their way to Okeechobee Music Festival in a couple weeks, the chance to witness such an opportunity is real. Last year the festival launched its PoWow! “super jam” with Win Butler from Arcade Fire, Miguel, and John Oates coming together with other festival artists such as Marcus Mumford, Skrillex and Preservation Hall Jazz Band for renditions of David Bowie’s “Fame,” the Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young classic “Ohio” (check that one out below), and much, much more.

This music festival, only in its sophomore year, has made strides toward becoming one of the most impressive festivals this year. Not only will they be bringing another impressive line-up that gives festival goers the opportunity to experience a wide-range of music, bit they have also managed to put them together for a once-in-a-lifetime collaboration. This line-up will be bringing along gems from the festival such as funk/electronic stylings of the DJ GRiZ, Grammy-nominated Gallant, and funk collective Vulfpeck, then combining it with some legends who are making an appearance on the PoWow! stage.
The expectation of this ensemble is that they will be on the same page to bring together today’s sound with the classical inspiration that all of these acts share in genres like R&B and funk. You might even hear some Steely Dan or Doobie Brothers classics with frontman Michael McDonald (maybe a modern rendition of “What A Fool Believes”, -wink wink-.)
There is plenty left to wonder about what might happen at the PoWow!, but what is known is that PoWow! programmers put together a fantastic group of artists. Now that the festival has become well-established, it deserves even wider national recognition considering it will be backed by members of recent Grammy-winning band Snarky Puppy. However, it still leaves its fans wondering about the final line of the PoWow! poster, which says “+Special Guests.” It is open to tons of artists from the day line-up, or maybe someone outside of the line-up, like Thundercat, which just released the song “Show You The Way” with Michael McDonald.
Leaving the speculation alone, OMF-goers have plenty to look forward with this performance. To some, it will be a tough decision since it is scheduled the same time as performances from Bassnectar and Sturgill Simpson. If you do plan to catch this legendary performance no matter what, it will be from 10:15-11:30 PM on the Here Stage at Okeechobee Music Festival on Saturday, March 4. Tickets are still available at okeechobeefest.com, but act quickly because it is close to capacity.
