Check Out the Schedule for Roosevelt Collier’s Summer Splashdown!
What do you get when you combine Roosevelt Collier’s Suwannee Getdowns with last year’s amazing Reunion: Campout Concert Series? You get Roosevelt Collier’s Summer Splashdown and Disc Golf Tournament, a three-day festival in and out of the Suwannee River! It’s going to be a blast at the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak: music during the day at the beach, with evening activities in the Music Hall and adjacent courtyard, then silent disco in the pavilion.
The fun begins in the Music Hall Friday at 7 with Electric Kif, the superb fusion band from Miami. From there, music alternates to the courtyard for DJ sets, then back to bands inside. Come Back Alice and Roosevelt Collier and Friends follow inside, with The Fritz having the last word (OK, not really. There IS silent disco!). Meanwhile, in the courtyard, enjoy the grooves of Self Mayde, MZG and Lucidea.
Silent Disco takes place back at the campground in the pavilion just beyond the amphitheater. Music starts at 2 AM with three one-hour slots, two DJs or groups per slot: DJ Ruby vs. Dismantle, Bit Deff vs. Kinder, and Kolourz vs. Exit 9. If you’ve never been, you get a pair of headphones that can switch to either of the two channels.
Saturday, grab your chairs, blankets, and coolers, and head to the beach at the end of River Road! Again, music alternates between bands and DJs. The spectacular jazz octet Ism opens the festivities; don’t miss them (and look for their album review here soon)! It’s a great day with three more superb bands at the beach: Flat Land, S.P.O.R.E., and the Galbraith Group. The DJ sets include Brother Dan, Nick Fresh and Kolourz.
Then make a bee line for the Music Hall, as funk collective Holey Miss Moley is ready to throw down. The amazing night continues with The Legendary JCs, Mr. Live Oak (Roosevelt) for Round Two, then Marvel Years and finally DYNOHUNTER, who were astounding at last year’s Reunion. The courtyard will be filled with the sounds of Matthew Connor, Lava, Bells and Robes, and Bit Deff.
Silent Disco, Night Two: Brother Dan vs. Booty Boo, Cat Party vs. Samsun Rising, and finally Bags vs. Lowkey.
You’re not done yet! One more dunk in the Suwannee. Rims and Keys plays at noon with Dave McSweeney (Greenhouse Lounge), then the Psychedelic Monks, and finally (you don’t want to miss them) Lucky Costello! DJ sets will be by Vlad the Inhaler and DJ Ruby.
MusicFestNews hopes to see you on the white-sand beach way down upon the Suwannee River — this weekend!
