Mustang Music Festival drops 2016 lineup
Go ahead and block off October 7-8 on your calendar and book a room. The sixth annual Mustang Music Festival announced a killer initial lineup this week, sure to rock the socks off anyone near the historic Whalehead Club in Corolla, NC. Are you ready for some .moe? You’ll be treated to two sets from this quintessential jam band. Lettuce will be bringing the funk, along with Philly blues great G. Love & Special Sauce, and Colorado’s Yonder Mountain String Band’s take on bluegrass. Percussion wizard Mike Dillon will pull double duty, performing with his band and as an artist-at-large. Smooth Hound Smith, a roots/Americana duo from Nashville, will be joined by Fruition, returning for the second year in a row. North Carolina is well represented with Burlington’s Big Something, Asheville’s Empire Strikes Brass, and local favorites Lunar Test Drive. Ripe, a funk/pop band from Boston rounds out the current lineup, along with Portland trumpeter Farnell Newton as an artist-at-large. More announcements to follow, including the pre-party on October 6.
This annual festival on the beautiful Outer Banks of North Carolina benefits the Mustang Outreach Program, which supplements cultural arts programs in local schools, and the Corolla Wild Horse Fund, whose mission is to protect, conserve, and responsibly manage the herd of wild Colonial Spanish mustangs roaming freely on the northernmost Currituck Outer Banks.
