Time to Get Down Again with Roosevelt Collier at Suwannee Getdown 4

rc sg bannerIt is time for the fourth installment of Roosevelt Collier’s Suwannee Getdowns. The first three were tremendous successes, and now Roosevelt and friends have upped the ante:

“Okay, good people. We are taking this Roosevelt Collier Suwannee GetDown/ Disc Jam to a new level. Our dear friends Vladimir Kulishevskiy (a.k.a. Vlad The Inhaler) and Megan Henderson (a.k.a. Booty Boo) are making this event their engagement party and bringing a bunch of their friends to play music and a second stage. Nothing like an engagement party to amp the vibe and reinforce the love and community we share with each other at Suwannee. Welcome to the bill S.P.O.R.E., Squeedlepuss, Lava, Vlad The Inhaler, Matthew Connor, Sir Charles, Zachy Nix, Cry Havoc, Booty Boo and Bit Def.”

Then Roosevelt and the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park kicked the event up yet another notch with the addition of Herd of Watts, The Savants of Soul, Corbitt-Clampitt Experience and Ajeva. Suddenly, a great weekend has turned into a truly amazing weekend.

Ajeva was a dynamic quartet with funk at its heart, and their recent expansion into a septet has had fans raving at every show. The St. Petersburg band has a brand new album ready for release very, very soon. Learn more on the band’s official Facebook page.

Corbitt-Clampitt Experience is a Jacksonville collaboration between Brady Clampitt (lead vocals and guitar) and members of The Corbitt Brothers, featuring Isaac Corbitt, considered by many to be the country’s premier harmonica player. They blend blues, soul, Southern rock, and funk into a wicked stew. Learn more on the band’s official Facebook page.

Herd of Watts is another fine exponent of the Jacksonville music scene, with funk, jam and rock at the band’s core. They also played Hulaween. Learn more on the band’s official website.

Lava is an excellent experimental band from Jacksonville. This one is personal. I was there for their silent disco set at Purple Hatter’s — and proceeded to sleep through the entire show! 5-Hour energy drink at the ready! Learn more on the band’s official Facebook page.

The Savants of Soul are a great soul and R’n’B revue from Gainesville. They dress and act the part, such as when the horn section all go to the dance floor and… dance! They are fronted by two fine singers who will help you dip back into the ‘60s and forward into now! Learn more on the band’s official website.

S.P.O.R.E. spans the territory from funk to prog and most everything in between. They rage every time out, and fans know not to miss their shows. The Jacksonville band delivers “live instrumented electrofunk jams.” Their jamtronic grooves run so deep and so wide; try not to get lost in them! They threw down a great set here at Reunion: Campout Concert Series. They also played Hulaween. Learn more on the band’s official Facebook page.

Squeedlepuss is a glorious band on the scene, from Jacksonville! They offer amazing jazz funk fusion, so you had better be ready to dance! They also played Hulaween. Learn more on the band’s official Facebook page.

In addition to the bands, some of the best DJs will also be spinning their magic, led by Vlad The Inhaler, Matthew Connor, and Sir Charles, all veterans of late-night silent disco shows at the park and shows at the beach (OK, maybe not in February). Zachy Nix, Cry Havoc, Booty Boo and Bit Def will join them.

You’re a disc golfer? How convenient! You can register for the Disc Golf tournament. Maybe you’re ready for the Pro Disc Golf tournament.
