Dandy Lush & In Case You Didn’t Joe: Keeping It Local
Festivals and big concerts are a blast, but it’s equally important to keep it local, taking things back to the roots. There was a double dose of local wonderful Friday, February 28, at Dunedin Brewery, featuring newcomers Dandy Lush and relatively new In Case You Didn’t Joe. All six of the musicians involved are great exponents of the Tampa Bay music scene, making new impressions in these two groups, and this was our first opportunity to hear either of the bands live!
In Case You Didn’t Joe features Casey Fogle, singer, songwriter, and guitarist who made her mark earlier as K tothe C. Joe is Joe King, a fine guitarist who has made a presence first on the Jacksonville scene, best known for his work with S.P.O.R.E.
The duo began with a pair of great covers, especially “Flobots’ “Handlebars.” Casey was providing great support on acoustic guitar while king began to weave his electric magic. After a fine reading of “Eleanor Rigby,” their first original emerged: “Think Void.” What followed was “Bukowski,” the Modest Mouse song that got everyone’s attention with the refrains “God who’d want to be such an asshole?” and “Who would want to be such a control freak?” All the while with Casey’s radiant smile!

The next original, “Sing Together,” was simultaneously powerful, magical, and mystical. Joe played acoustic; Casey sang without accompanying. WOW! After “Devil’s Mockery,” they were joined by the band members of Dandy Lush for “Lazarus.” Finally, they were joined by the Dandy Lush leader and vocalist Pam Middleton (known by most as Pam A Lama Songstress) for a superb look at “While My Guitar Gently Weeps.”
The packed pub showed its appreciation for the fine set.

Pam’s collective includes two members of Mr. Whiskers and the Nine Lives: Adam Barnett on keyboards and Tim Adger on drums, Sladjan Vidic (shoeless soul) on bass, and the aforementioned Joe King on electric guitar. Pam told us this was the first time she had played at Dunedin Brewery in 15 years! What a great way to return!
Pam has a powerhouse voice, so amply supported by this excellent quartet. After opening “Judgment,” things got heavy with “Excuses.” Adger offered backing vocals on “Tantalize,” a real rocker. Every tune was met with great audience response, and the band responded in kind. Adger and Vidic make a great rhythm team, supporting a wide variety of moods and styles.

Pam rocked out on a fine cover of the Led Zep favorite “Fool in the Rain,” and the band nailed all the changes. King and Barnett were outstanding all night, but they really stepped out on “Deserve It.” They closed with “Inside Out” and “Trippin’ Over” to huge applause and a demand for an encore. Pam willingly yielded to Casey as they played one more song: “Hook.”
