The Lucky Strokes Trio Do the Gulf Coast +

In November of 2022, through a conspiracy with Tommy Shugart and Jessica Majeski, Eddie Roberts came to Clearwater for a post-Thanksgiving Clearwater Jazz Holiday event. The organ trio comprised Shugart, Roberts, and Taylor Galbraith, a drummer much in demand in the Tampa-St. Petersburg area. She and sister Ashley Galbraith form a powerful rhythm section. Roberts chose to bring the sisters to Denver the following January for Cervantes’ Masterpiece Ballroom 20th anniversary show and a recording date at Roberts’ amazing Color Red Studios. Roberts, a self-proclaimed boogaloo funk jazz player, grabbed incendiary young rocker Shelby Kemp, and Eddie Roberts and The Lucky Strokes were born.

As they continued to add more shows to their touring calendar, Roberts also invited keyboard wizard Chris Spies (Honey Island Swamp Band, Nerf! the World) to the project. The group released their eponymous debut album. They made a huge splash when Paul Levine had them play the final set at Suwannee Hulaween 2023.

Eddie Roberts & The Lucky Strokes had a great 2024, sailing on Jam Cruise 20, playing Jazz Fest, and performing at numerous festivals and concerts. They just closed out the year joining Cool Cool Cool for a New Year’s Eve shebang.

Now The Lucky Strokes — Galbraith, Galbraith & Kemp — have a run of eleven January shows, beginning Thursday, January 9, with a live radio broadcast on WUWF radio from the University of West Florida in Pensacola. The trio will follow that with a show in Gulf Shores, six dates in Kemp’s home state of Mississippi, one in Charlotte, and two just added in Knoxville.

The full Eddie Roberts and The Lucky Strokes will be back in action with two performances at the inaugural Amp Jam #1 in Live Oak April 10-12. That lineup is STACKED!
