Mike Dillon & Punkadelick: The FunkCity.net VIDEO

Jake Funkmayor of FunkCity.net captured videos of four sets on Thursday, the opening salvo from Suwannee Hulaween. One of those was from the remarkable Punkadelick which The Vibraphone Destroyer Mike Dillon has assemble featuring the incomparable Nikki Glaspie and the keyboard wizard Brian Haas.

Or, as Funkmayor describes them:

“This band is unique and amazing and a real treat to see at Hula! So much energy and talent on one stage. A trio featuring Mike Dillon (Ricki Lee Jones, Ani DiFranco, Les Claypool) on vibraphone, marimba, Prophet 6, congas, and bongos, Brian Haas (Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey) on Fender Rhodes, piano, bass Moog and melodica and Nikki Glaspie (Beyonce) on drums, cymbals and vocals, Punkadelick is the unified vision of six hands creating a world that often sounds like the work of an ensemble three times the size.”

The manic setlist included “Cremate Me,” “Quarantine Booty Call,” “White Boy Run,” “Homer & Debs,” and a brilliant rendition of The Stooges’ “I Wanna Be Your Dog” in addition to a number of setlist favorites.
