Melody Trucks, Fitzkee Brothers, Gordon Sterling & the People Continue New Phunk Odyssey Tour
The New Phunk Odyssey Tour featuring acclaimed Southern roots-rock vocalist and percussionist Melody Trucks and her remarkable companions The Fitzkee Brothers continue their four-city mini-tour along with Gordon Sterling & The People. The NPO Tour hits The 8×10 in Baltimore Saturday and at Kennett Flash in Kennett Square Sunday.
From Trucks:
“Each show will include sets by both bands, plus a special collaborative set with rotating musicians to honor classic funk and soul tunes by Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Bill Withers, Parliamanent-Funkadelic, Aretha Franklin, and more.”
Melody Trucks, the daughter of the late Butch Trucks, founder of The Allman Brothers Band, has been surrounded by music her entire life. She put together a great band which played numerous major festivals and many other shows. She is dedicated to the work her father started with Roots Rock Revival, giving musicians of all ages the opportunity to learn from great veteran players. That is how she “discovered” two outstanding young men, The Fitzkee Brothers.
The brothers who are excellent singers, songwriters, and musicians. Their approach perfectly dovetails with Trucks’ music. Drummer Alex and bass player Drew are from Delaware, and for these shows triple-threat Tony Tyler of Florida is joining them (guitar, keyboards, vocals). For Sunday’s show, force of nature Ron Holloway will join them!
Also on the bill are Gordon Sterling & The People, featuring Gordon Sterling, lead vocals, guitar; Cliff Blum, guitar; Scott Clement, bass; David Ray, drums, vocals; and Jesse Hooper, keyboards. This great sextet from Washington are well known for their great rock and soul.
