Clairo: Pop Perfection

One of the most ridiculous statements I encounter on the inter webs is this:

There’s been no good music made since the ’60s and ’70s.

… with multiple absurd variations. The first recommendation, of course, is to turn off terrestrial radio and then begin to search for the millions of musicians making wonderful music of all sorts — right now! There are hundreds and hundreds of music festivals of all genres out there, with great music waiting for you.

When we were raising our son and daughter, music of nearly every type continually filled our house, featuring first our eclectic styles… and then theirs! The very best reward is that they teach me, their friends, and my granddaughter Juni about wonderful, fresh music of all stripes. There is always music playing at their houses!

And now it’s gone to the next generation to pay that back. Granddaughter Juni, her mom, and Juni’s friend are heading to Atlanta Fabulous Fox Theater tonight (November 7) to see Clairo. WHO? Like I have for recommendations from son and daughter, I decided to check out Clairo.

This is pop perfection! The 26-year-old Claire Elizabeth Cottrill, who uses the stage name Clairo, has been performing since she was 13. She has recorded 14 EPs, 35 singles, 3 studio albums, and a live one as well. Her new album Charm was issued in July, and she is touring in support of the album. These two nights in Atlanta (November 7 & 8) are the last of 19 U.S. shows. She also has one date in Mexico, and in December she has a three-night run at the historic Massey Hall in Toronto.

In February, Clairo will travel to New Zealand and then Australia for six dates. There are a dozen March dates on the European Charm Tour, and she will also play the Primavera Sound festival in Spain in June.
