Inaugural Sunshine Hootenanny Lineup Blows Away All Expectations

Sunshine Music & Arts Festivals have a new event to debut, and they have knocked this one out of the park. Sunshine Get Down had a glorious sophomore event in May (read about that here), and now the organizers are excited to present Sunshine Hootenanny at Florida Sand Music Ranch in Brooksville, Florida, November 21-23 with an outstanding lineup.

A look at the festival headliners begins with TWO NIGHTS of moe., long-time jamband kingpins from upstate New York. They have played all of the major festivals in our sphere, well into their FOURTH decade of awesomeness!

A band with a much shorter resume would be Dogs in a Pile. These youngsters have wowed audiences everywhere with their talent and their fresh approach.

And to those add the whirling dervish sprite Karina Rykman, who fronts her own superb trio and also plays bass with Marco Benevento.

It has been years since there was any good Lemonade here in Florida. Fortunately, Bobby Lee Rodgers is putting the band back together with original ingredients Dennis and Kenny Stadelman (CopE) and Fil Pate and new garnish drummer Richard Hargett.

Grateful Dog harkens back to the great duo recordings of Jerry Garcia and David Grisman. That is precisely what Billy Gilmore (The Grass is Dead) and Mickey Abraham are recreating with their performances. Plenty more grateful grooves await with Ship of Fools (festival organizer Turner Moore and friends), Jerryland, Rich Sheldon Band, and Woody & Sunshine on the lineup.

The Sarasota family weighs in with RJ Howson, Berry Oakley Jr. & Friends bringing you superb Southern rock. Tony Tyler has put together an amazing collective for Dose, a tribute to Gov’t Mule featuring Jacob Cox (guitar), Kenny Harvey (bass), and Rage Paige Cantrell on drums. That will be killer.

Tru Phonic’s horn-driven grooves come from the Space Coast, while One Love Rising bring the deep reggae grooves with Juanjamon, Este Love and friends.

Grandpa’s Cough Medicine haven’t played in these here parts for far too long; prepare for bluegrass with tongue-in-cheek humor, scathing social commentary, unbridled savagery, and a heavy metal attitude. There are more bluegrass-inspired acoustic jams coming your way from Low Ground Trio.

Massive funksters The Reality return to the fest circuit, and Row Jomah and friends will reprise their Quinten Tarantino music tribute Royale with Cheese.

The last two entries are very important. Sgammato School of Music will once again put several bands of teens on stage who will knock your socks off; they certainly did at Sunshine Get Down. Finally, it has been far too long since Blue Skye Pipe & Drum have graced a local festival. They will be a wonderful addition to Sunshine Hootenanny.
