Light the Wire Ready to Electrify Jacksonville, St. Augustine

It is always exciting to watch a new musical collaboration evolve. Those in the Tampa area have been watching Light the Wire, a trio that emerged a year or so ago with truly beautiful music. They have since added a superb rhythm section (and a fourth vocalist) to greatly expand their horizons and their setlists.

Originally, the trio included Dani Jaye (Tire Fire, Vision Crystal), vocals, fiddle; Alexa Toro (Moonbae), vocals; and J.D. Simpson (Between Bluffs), guitar, vocals. All three are prolific songwriters and fine singers. Now with the assistance of Caleb Bone (The Reality), bass, vocals; and Dylan Chee-A-Tow (Row Jomah), drums, this full-throated group is playing shimmering sets of music every time they perform. Bone is also an exceptional vocalist.

We caught up with them recently at Sunshine Get Down in Brooksville, Florida, in May:

For many in attendance, this was our first look and listen to another very exciting new project with their indie folk rock from the heart: Light the Wire. The band features five very familiar faces: Dani Jaye, Alexa Toro, J.D. Simpson, Caleb Bone, and Dylan Chee-A-Tow. The group started as an acoustic trio before adding this great rhythm section.

Regardless of what I expected from this quintet, they surpassed that by a light year. Vocals and especially harmonies were superb, as was the music.  Opening with “Come in from the Rain,” they caught everyone’s attention. There were so many wonderful lyrics in songs such as “Share the World Together,” “Rise to the Occasion,” and “White Hot Night.” They were joined for part of the set by artist-at-large Arrie Bozeman (Tire Fire, The Ain’t Sisters). Be on the lookout for Light the Wire!

Light the Wire are heading to Jacksonville and St. Augustine this weekend for shows at Jack Rabbits and Colonial Oak Music Park.
