Erica Falls Invites the World to Dance with New Feel-Good Single “Good Time”: LISTEN

New Orleans songstress Erica Falls invites fans to dance their cares away on her new single “Good Time.” The undeniably danceable tune follows the October release of “Up,” the first single from her forthcoming full-length studio album Emotions, scheduled to drop on March 8.

Self-released, “Good Time” was written and co-produced by Falls and her longtime collaborator Nick Mercadel, who also plays drums on the track. Additionally the tune features Hall’s bandmates Donald Ramsey on bass and Jason Hodge on keys along with the contributions of renowned New Orleans guitarist Chris Adkins.

“Good Time” sets the mood for cathartic bliss with vintage grooves laced tightly over funk-fortified beats and Falls’ beguiling vocals reminiscent of legendary disco’s of a bygone era. The premise is simple: “Let your hair down. Bust a move. Do what ever makes you feel good.”

“The mood I wanted to set is RELEASE,” said Falls of the track. “We all need that outlet to shake the blues away. So I decided to make that happen to a feel-good dance track.

“The inspiration for ‘Good Time’ was that I needed a release from all of the craziness in the world and there’s no better way to relieve stress than to work it out on the dance floor,” she continued. “The melody for this song came to me while on a boat on Lake Maggiore in Ascona, Switzerland. It was my day off from the 2022 Ascona Jazz Festival, and I was telling Nick I had this melody for a song in my head, and I sang it for him and recorded it in my notes so I wouldn’t forget, and we built out the song from there.”

The release of “Good Time” and “Up,”  both of which are available across all digital platforms, teases what promises to be the full spectrum of human sentiments expressed on the highly-anticipated Emotions. Years in the making, Emotions follows 2011’s Me Myself and I and 2017’s superb Homegrown and ushers in the next phase of Falls’ storied career spanning more than two decades. Falls began writing and developing her chops as a singer in her hometown of New Orleans where she caught the attention of such legends as Dr. John and Allen Toussaint. She would go on to back some of music’s biggest stars including Sting, Jennifer Hudson, Joe Sample, and No Doubt.

Galactic with Erica Falls

Fans might know her best as the guest singer for the New Orleans guardians of funk, Galactic, a band she toured with for nearly five years. A decision to go solo back in 2019 seemed ill-fated when the Covid pandemic hit and nearly derailed that dream. A consummate survivor, Falls emerged stronger than ever and has taken full control of her life and career, including the decision to release Emotions herself. The album features contributions by George Porter Jr., the legendary bassist for The Meters, and Grammy-nominated soul artist Jamison Ross.

Falls keeps her skills sharp playing frequent gigs in and around New Orleans, including a performance with her band Vintage Soul slated for May 5 at this year’s New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival as well as touring the globe.
