Photon at Dunedin Brewery Friday & Saturday
[Plagiarism is frowned upon, but if you are stealing your own stuff, who knows what the rules are? Here is a mash-up of a
Photon preview and review from September of 2022 at Dunedin Brewery. They are back for more.]
Photon? Who the heck are Photon?
A photon is an elementary particle that is a quantum of the electromagnetic field, including electromagnetic radiation such as light and radio waves, and the force carrier for the electromagnetic force. Photons are massless, so they always move at the speed of light in vacuum.
Oh, wait. You mean about the OTHER Photon.
Glad you asked. Photon is comprised of four outstanding musicians playing some head-bobbing trance dance, jamtronic electronica and deep grooves. James Charles Dunstan Jr. or better yet Jimmy Dunstan, on keyboards from Yamn/Spun. Guitarist extraordinaire Chris Michetti plays with RAQ and with Conspirator. The drum kit belongs to Neal โFroโ Evans from the amazing DOPAPOD. Bass player Dan Africano (Thievery Corporation) is a producer and monster player.
This is the band playing tonight and Saturday (December 8 & 9) at Dunedin Brewery. We cannot stress enough how huge these shows are. From our review a year ago:
It was an evening of brilliant jamtronica, electronica, synth-drenched funk, and jammed-out prog rock (the four major food groups). James Charles Dunstan Jr., aka and better known as Jimmy D, wrote all of the tunes. There is no way for me to overstate his mastery on electronic keyboards, especially synths. Let me put it this way: I never thought I would hear another keyboard player to match the prowess of George Duke. I am delighted to say I was wrong. Jimmy D. IS that man.
You should find out โ anywhere, any time he is playing.
Please donโt think I have forgotten the other members of the band. Far too few people know about Chris Michetti. His amazing guitar was for years at the center of the mix of the group RAQ, and, blessedly, RAQ is BAQ! He also teamed up with Marc Brownstein and Aron Magner of The Disco Biscuits and Mike Greenfield of Lotus to form Conspirator, another legendary band serving up those four major food groups.
Dopapod drummer Neal โFroโ Evans was likewise perfectly attuned to this setting. His superb work throughout the evening was a master class. I am always aware that it is the drummer who turns up the heat and brings it back down to simmer and then raging boil, and Evans was the master chef last night.
Dan Africanoย was not present for the shows last year, but his reputation precedes him. In addition to his production work, he performs with Thievery Corporation, Death by Dub, Elephant Wrecking Ball, Photon, Radon, and John Brown’s Body.
Photon will fill Dunedin Brewery with electromagnetic radiation such as light and radio waves on Friday and Saturday, December 8 & 9. If you like jamtronica and trance-dance, do not miss this. Here are several of Tim Mulaly‘s videos from September 2022.
NEVER EVER EVER MISS AN OPPORTUNITY TO SEE PHOTON IN
WHATEVER PERMUTATION OR COMBINATION IS PLAYING.
