Folk Phenom Stella Prince Releases Ethereal New Single “Two Faced”: [PREMIERE]

With the release of her eighth ethereal single “Two Faced,” folk phenom Stella Prince has solidified her place among the genre’s rising stars. Set to be independently released on Friday, August 4, the tune’s soul-stirring lyrics coupled with Prince’s shimmering vocals aim for the heart.

Self-produced and recorded at the legendary Sound Stage Studios on Music Row in Nashville, “Two Faced” features pedal steel guitarist, Grammy-winning producer, and educator Steve Fishell. Nashville musicians Ben Garrett (keys, guitar), PJ Schreiner (drums), Mike Dunton (electric guitar), and Father Phillip (bass) also contribute to the track. Unlike previous works which featured Prince as the sole performer, “Two Faced” constitutes her first time working with a full band.

The result is a song that plays on universal themes such as heartache, isolation, and loneliness. With Prince’s emotive vocals floating over Fishell’s guitar, the track’s lyrics hit listeners square in the heart.

“You got her right where you wanted…
Lonely enough so she’d take the bait…
Blinded by words that were only an empty promise…
Desperation paves way for mistakes.”

But the essence of the song resides in its chorus:

There’s all kinds of empty…
but the hardest one to take…
is lies that seem tempting…
Loneliness is two faced.”

Commenting on “Two Faced,” Prince said, “My big goal is for someone to play my song and think, ‘That’s exactly how I feel.’ I want my songs to resonate with everyone, every generation, every issue: loneliness, fear, all of that.”

Prior to releasing “Two Faced,” Prince was coming off a string of successes including the 2022 release of Closing Doors,” her fifth single produced by acclaimed musician, singer/songwriter, and producer for the legendary rock group The Band,  Professor Louie (a.k.a Aaron L. Hurwitz). The song debuted at #15 on the North American College and Community radio charts (NACC), with the accompanying video garnering 118,000 views on YouTube alone. 2022 proved to be a groundbreaking year for Prince, who embarked on her first international run in the UK and an 18-city tour of the Southwest.

Just last February, Prince was awarded a First Timers Scholarship by Folk Alliance International, a global arts nonprofit founded in 1989 with a mission to connect folk music leaders aiming to sustain the community and genre worldwide. She performed in six different private Folk Alliance showcases between February 1-3, creating an international buzz.

All of this, and she’s not yet out of her teens. A Woodstock, NY native who now lives in Nashville, Prince counts music greats Judy Garland, Karen Carpenter, Patsy Cline, Emmylou Harris, Dolly Parton, and Taylor Swift among her biggest influences. She is currently performing around Nashville and has her sights set on summer and fall tours.
