Eddie Roberts & The Lucky Strokes: New Single, California Shows
Eddie Roberts has created great music with The New Mastersounds and different vibes with Matador! Soul Sounds. His latest project, Eddie Roberts and The Lucky Strokes, gives Roberts a chance to explore yet another genre dripping with rock, Southern rock, and blues vibes, and they are having a lot of fun!
The band first congregated in Denver in February for Cervantes’ Masterpiece Ballroom’s anniversary, and the next day they went to Roberts’ Color Red Studios to record an album. Their Facebook profile says it all:
If luck is what happens when hard work meets opportunity, the union of Eddie Roberts & The Lucky Strokes epitomizes that adage. The New Mastersounds’ guitarist and bandleader has a knack for leaning into individual strengths, and that sensibility is evidenced through his recruitment of Mississippi-based guitarist and vocalist Shelby Kemp (Royal Horses), who brings a Southern rock grit and candid, nimble songwriting to team up with the Tampa Bay-based Galbraith Sisters who possess a simpatico rhythm section chemistry only found within a family bloodline. Powered by the urbane guitar playing and production of Roberts, you have a new tour de force ensemble that makes listeners stop in their tracks the same way Roberts did upon hearing the talents of Kemp and the Galbraith Sisters.

The first single from their upcoming album, “Whiskey Makes Me Stronger,” showed us exactly what we should expect from this dynamic quartet. Now the second song has emerged, “Sweet Dreams.” Taylor Galbraith’s drum intro leads to double-tracked chorus vocals from Kemp and a tight guitar riff. The guitar figure is relentless as the tune progresses. A fine restrained wah-wah solo highlights the track. Kemp’s voice was built for this, and the two guitars mesh perfectly. Taylor Galbraith & Ashley Galbraith (bass) lay down the tight foundation for Roberts & Kemp.
This was produced by Roberts. The tracking engineer was Dylan Brown, who also mixed the track at Color Red Studios in Denver. Jason Livermore was the mastering engineer at The Blasting Room Studios.
Eddie Roberts and The Lucky Strokes head to California this weekend for a pair of shows. Next month, the band will play three dates in Colorado area. They will also play two sets at Sugar Pine Music Festival in October.
We anxiously await the release of the full album!
