Melody Trucks & Fitzkee Brothers Celebrate Watkins Glen Summer Jam on Road to Roots Tour
It has been 50 years since the storied Watkins Glen Summer Jam featuring The Grateful Dead, The Allman Brothers, and The Band. With that in mind, outstanding percussionist and vocalist Melody Trucks has reunited with The Fitzkee Brothers for a five-night run of shows in Delaware, Maryland, and New York on their Road to Roots tour.
They kicked it off Wednesday, July 26, with a show at Lewes Ferry Ground with George Porter Jr.. Tonight (Thursday) they will play Park Inn at Parkton, Maryland, followed Friday by a show in Columbia at The Collective Encore. From there, they ramble up to The Bitter End in Greenwich Village and then on to Long Island and Beau’s Bar. Friday’s show at The Collective Encore marks the exact 50th anniversary of Summer Jam at Watkins Glen.
Discussing The Fitzkee Brothers, Melody says,
“I met these two young musicians at Roots Rock Revival last year. One of the things I have come to realize about the youth coming up through Roots is just how amazingly talented they are. I feel this is a way to continue my dad’s vision for Roots by partnering with them and hitting the road.”

The daughter of the late Allman Brothers Band drummer Butch Trucks, vocalist/percussionist Melody Trucks is best known as singer and co-front person of popular Allman Brothers Band tribute Brother and Sister with her brother Vaylor in addition to her great work as a solo artist, fronting her band for several years and recently performing with sacred steel masters The Lee Boys.

In 2022 Melody co-hosted the Blue Jay Concert Series in her hometown of Jacksonville at the renowned Blue Jay Listening Room. Guest artists who have shared the stage with Melody and brother Vaylor include guitar great Luther Dickinson (North Mississippi All Stars, The Black Crowes); Jimmy Hall, longtime vocalist/harpist of Southern rock legends Wet Willie; and 2019 Grammy nominee “the Piana From Savannah,” Victor Wainwright. Melody also made some guest appearances with the 2022 Allman Family Revival Tour.
