Jazz is Dead 25th Anniversary Tour Continues
In January, the new reconstituted Jazz is Dead, led by founder Alphonso Johnson, had a 15-show run in celebration of the 50th anniversary of In the Wake of the Flood. The band has announced that there will be a set of shows in August, too. On the more immediate horizon is a Southern tour in May, with six shows beginning in Atlanta Friday Buckhead Theatre and on to Asheville and Charleston this weekend (May 12-14). The following weekend, the quartet will play Charlotte and Fort Lauderdale before closing this run at Jannus Live in Saint Petersburg.

This incarnation of the band features Alphonso Johnson, bass; Pete Lavezzoli, drums; Steve Kimock, guitars; and Bobby Lee Rodgers, guitars, banjo.
Those who were around in 1998-1999 with the original band and second shift remember just how vital this band is on stage as well as on record. Here is a clip of “Help On the Way > Slipknot! > Franklin’s Tower” from The Great American Music Hall January 13. And, yes indeed, Rodgers has his beloved Leslie cabinet right there!!!
