Newport Jazz Festival’s 69th Edition Hits Home Run with 2023 Lineup

The illustrious Newport Jazz Festival has outdone itself with its 69th anniversary edition to be held August 4-6 at the historic Fort Adams State Park. This year’s astounding lineup maintains its commitment to diversity, featuring artists drawn from the worlds of jazz, R&B, jam, hip hop, fusion, and world music featuring headliners Herbie Hancock, Joe Russo’s Almost Dead w/Kamasi Washington, Jon Batiste, DJ Pee .Wee (Anderson .Paak), Diana Krall, Thundercat, Big Gigantic Does Jazz, Samara Joy, and more.

They’ll be joined by a host of multi-faceted artists including Kamasi Washington playing his own headlining set, Soulive, DOMi & JD Beck, Big Freedia, Butcher Brown, Alfa Mist, Charles Llloyd New Quartet, Endea Owens & The Cookout, Arroj Aftab, Vijay Iyer, Julian Lage, Orrin Evens Quintet, Lakecia Benjamin and Phoenix, The War and Treaty, Cimafunk, Cautious Clay, Somi, Julius Rodriguez, Shahzad Ismaily,  Keyon Harrold, James Brandon Lewis, Pedrito Martinez, Bill Charlap Trio, and the Charles McPherson Quintet, with more to be announced.

Fans can also revel in a number of unparalleled ensemble performances including Superblue featuring Kurt Elling, Charlie Hunter, Nate Smith and the Huntertones Horns and Scary Goldings (Scary Pockets and Larry Goldings) featuring John Scofield. Grammy Award-winning bassist and Newport Jazz Festival artistic director Christian McBride will be hands-on with Christian McBride’s Jam Jawn and A Moodswing Reunion with bandmates Joshua Redman, Brad Mehldau, and Brian Blade.
