Dave Watts’ Zepp is Funk: So Nice, They Have to Do It Twice!
Last year, Dave Watts’ birthday celebration, called Zepp is Funk, filled up Cervantes’ Masterpiece Ballroom in Denver. It would have been packed anyway, but you will recall that the party turned into a benefit for those, including Watts, who lost their homes — and everything — in the devastating Marshall fire December 30, 2021.
The show was a smashing success, and Watts is reprising it with a double-header: TWO nights of Zepp is Funk. The first comes late-night as part of the 20th anniversary of Cervantes’ on Saturday, January 28. Then the crew will move their toys over to 10 Mile Music Hall in Frisco Sunday night for a further romp through the Led Zeppelin catalog.
The lineup for Zepp is Funk includes six members of last year’s great night: Dave Watts (The Motet), drums; Jason Hann (The String Cheese Incident), percussion; Shawn Eckles (Andy Frasco & the U.N.), guitar, vocals; Todd Smallie (JJ Grey & Mofro), bass; Tony Tyler (The Tony Tyler Band), vocals, guitar; and Gabe Mervine, trumpet. Also playing this year are Joey Porter (The Motet), keyboards, synths (he had a sit-in last year); Jennifer Hartswick (Trey Anastasio Band), vocals, trumpet; and Natalie Cressman (Trey Anastasio Band), vocals, trombone.
Prepare yourself to be TRAMPLED UNDER FOOT by this amazing collaboration!
