The String Cheese Incident Inducted into Colorado Music Hall of Fame
Genre-bending jam band stalwarts The String Cheese Incident received their due with the band’s December 29 induction into the Colorado Music Hall of Fame. The band was ceremoniously installed by Don Strasburg, board member of Colorado Music Hall of Fame and co-president of AEG Presents, along with The Hall’s founder Chuck Morris, during the first of three shows at Denver’s Mission Ballroom featuring Kanika Moore and Antwaun Stanley.
“Formed in 1993 in Crested Butte, The String Cheese Incident is the ultimate jam band, instrumental in Colorado exploding as the jam-band capital of America. Their eclectic sound combining rock, bluegrass, country and funk is undefinable in the music they play,” said Chuck Morris in a press release. “One of the great live bands in the musical heritage of our state, The String Cheese Incident has never sat on its laurels, continuing to grow and expand their music for three decades.”
During their storied existence, The String Cheese Incident have been recognized for their commitment to musical creativity, integrity and community spirit, philanthropic endeavors and innovative approach to the business of music. The band’s prolific touring and production schedule has resulted in ten albums, countless live recordings, and six DVDs.
As pioneers in the music business, The String Cheese Incident built its own record label (SCI Fidelity), ticketing and merchandise companies, and a fan travel agency. They were also among the first bands to use the internet to market and share news with fans and were early adopters of downloadable music and file sharing.
The String Cheese Incident’s original members include violinist Michael Kang, bassist Keith Moseley, acoustic guitarist Bill Nershi, and drummer Michael Travis, with keyboardist Kyle Hollingsworth added to the lineup in 1996 and percussionist Jason Hann in 2004. The band’s cutting-edge live shows and relentless energy have garnered them a huge following far beyond Colorado. The String Cheese Incident regularly gift Coloradans with headlining concerts and multiple-night shows at major venues throughout the state each year, most notably an annual run at Red Rocks Amphitheatre. Holiday shows and destination festivals, such as Suwannee Hulaween, Electric Forest, and The Jamaica Incident are also regular fare on their touring schedule.
“It is an honor to be inducted into the Colorado Music Hall of Fame,” noted Keith Moseley in a press release. “ From our humble beginnings of playing in lift lines and après-ski gigs, to our annual multi-night runs at Red Rocks, Colorado and its natural beauty continue to be an inspiration to us. We can’t overstate our appreciation to the incredible fan base and fertile live music scene here in Colorado that has enabled us to hone our craft for nearly 30 years. We are thankful to be a part of this vibrant community and encourage you to make a joyful sound and pursue your dreams. Thank you!”
The String Cheese Incident joins a long list of legendary Colorado Music Hall of Famers including John Denver; Caribou Ranch; members of Earth, Wind & Fire; Judy Collins; Barry Fey; and eTown. Since its founding in 2011, over fifty musicians, music industry professionals, venues, and organizations have been inducted into Colorado Music Hall of Fame, which seeks to celebrate and promote the state’s music community. The Hall continues its mission in newly bilingual exhibits at The Hall’s museum at Red Rocks Trading Post in Morrison, Colorado.
“We are so honored and proud to have The String Cheese Incident inducted into Colorado Music Hall of Fame,” said Scott Tobias, Hall of Fame board co-chair and CEO of Voice Media Group in a press release. “From the band members’ early days playing mountain gigs to today, they always bring it!
