They’re BAAAAAACK! Garaj Mahal in Concert… Once Again!
After a three-year hiatus, the phenomenal progressive jazz fusion band Garaj Mahal have returned to the road. This past weekend, they performed in Portland, Seattle, and Bend. And this Friday and Saturday, December 2 & 3, they will play Cervantes’ Other Side in Denver with Kick the Cat, the excellent band led by Kris Myers of Umphrey’s McGee. Friday will also feature Half Maxx; on Saturday Legato are also on the bill.
Garaj Mahal are: Fareed Haque, guitar; Hassan Hurd, drums; Oz Ezzeldin, keyboards; and Kai Eckhardt, bass. The group was created by Haque and Eckhardt in 2000, and ever since they have contributed to the jazz, jam, and world music scenes with incredibly intricate compositions and jaw-dropping performances.
While we hope for lots more in 2023, we are indebted to Chad “Spitzy” Spitz for his outstanding recording of the show November 19 in Seattle at Nectar Lounge. It’s up on archive.org. As Eddie Harris would say, Listen Here.
