SKULL & ROSES 2023 Returns with “Preaching on the Burning Shore,” a Celebration of All Things Grateful Dead

SKULL & ROSES returns to Ventura, CA this spring for its fifth incarnation celebrating Grateful Dead culture with Phil Lesh & Friends captaining a lineup that includes Oteil & Friends, Dark Star Orchestra, Leftover Salmon, Melvin Seals & JGB, and more. To be held at the April 19-23 at the historic Ventura County Fairgrounds, the expanded five-day event keeps the spirit of The Grateful Dead alive with its commitment to community, peace and joy.

Bassist Phil Lesh, a founding member of The Grateful Dead, tops the bill for a second time with two headlining performances. Keyboardist and founding member of the Jerry Garcia Band Melvin Seals will be making his fifth appearance while Oteil Burbridge returns for the third time. SKULL & ROSES veterans Dark Star Orchestra will also be on hand once again to deliver their own special interpretation of The Grateful Dead’s music.

Joining them for non-stop music will be Grateful Shred, Sages & Spirits, Boombox featuring Backbeat Brass, Circles Around The Sun, Jerry’s Middle Finger, Stu Allen & Mars Hotel, Brown Eyed Women, Dogs In A Pile, and many more. They’ll be performing on a turntable stage at the same seaside site where eleven legendary Grateful Dead concerts took place from 1982-1987.

Fans can also take part in daily themes including Bicycle Day, Four-Twenty, Chinese New Year, New Year’s Eve, and Mardi Gras while strolling down a heady Shakedown Street. The festival will also offer a new “Oasis” area to cool off and rejuvenate, plus local beer and expanded food vendors.
