Artist On the Rise GeminiiDRAGON Delivers Modern Blues With a Twist

The denizens of Louisiana’s rich music culture are legion. So, it takes an exceptional talent to stand out in a state where music is as omnipresent and deep as the Mississippi River. GeminiiDRAGON (a.k.a. Jessica Harper) is that marvel.

Hailing from Thibodaux, LA along the steaming banks of Bayou Lafourche, GeminiiDRAGON is fast capturing the attention of blues aficionados everywhere with a style described as “blues on steroids.” Her debut album Fighting Fire With Fire makes good on that pronouncement.

Released earlier this year via Nepotism Recordings, the eight-track album is an exercise in badassery and the culmination of GeminiiDRAGON’s wide-ranging influences, including Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, Albert King, Freddie King, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Koko Taylor, Jimi Hendrix, ZZ Top, Janis Joplin, Fleetwood Mac, Cream, and Led Zeppelin. It also marks the latest chapter in her career with songwriting partner, guitarist, and Nepotism CEO Christian Simeon.

Produced by The HATERZ and recorded at Beatrice Studios in Shreveport, LA, Fighting Fire With Fire comes out of the gate on full blast with its title track setting the stage for an album that stakes a solid claim in Rock and Roll’s grittiest territory. With bassist Danny Woolen and drummer Kash Carlsson throwing a solid one/two punch of rhythm, Christian Simeon’s searing guitar lays the groundwork for GeminiiDRAGON’s signature growling vocals coursing with serpentine magneticism.

“Gotta Make You Wonder,” “Huh, Huh, Huh,” and “Just The Way It Is,” the first single off the album, keep the rock undercurrent going. Check out GeminiiDRAGON channeling her heroes ZZ Top and Koko Taylor on “Just The Way It Is” below.

Lest we forget that GeminiiDragon is, foremost, a blues artist who skillfully stitches together multiple genres including soul and gospel, along comes “A Woman Scorned,” a tune that hews closely to blues’ intent, and “Badder Than Eva,” a gospel-imbued gem sung with authenticity. Listen to “Badder Than Eva” below.
