Erica Falls Releases Joyful New Single “Let’s Get Down Tonight”: LISTEN

Emerging from the crushing weight of a pandemic that nearly took out an entire live music industry, New Orleans singer/songwriter Erica Falls is back stronger than ever with effervescent new single “Let’s Get Down Tonight” featuring rapper Lyrics Born. The tune comes ahead of Falls’ much anticipated performance at The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival on May 6, when she’ll reveal a second single, “One Stop Shop,” with Chali 2na of Jurassic 5.

“Those songs were written in 2019 when I was in a really good, happy, funky place,” Falls said in a statement to OffBeat Magazine. “We’re actually just kind of like getting back around to it, due to this pandemic thing. And it’s sort of just kind of rolled into 2022. But I think it’s rolled right into the perfect place. By the perfect time.”

Released via Louisiana Red Hot Records and available across all digital platforms, “Let’s Get Down Tonight,” was written by Falls and co-produced with Nick Mercardel, who also plays drums on the track. Mixed and mastered by Bob “ Bassybob” Brockman, the tune also features Chris Adkins on guitar, Mike Bass on bass and trumpet, Jason Hodge on keys, and Kendrick Marshall on Hammond B3 organ. The single dares listeners to rediscover the simple pleasures of letting loose with good friends on a Friday night. It’s a welcome dose of spirited funk and soul anchored by Fall’s sunlit vocals rising over old-school dance rhythms. It’s high-spirited, untroubled fun — something that’s been in short supply during these troubled times.

Nurtured by the creative spirit and culture of her hometown, Falls has recorded with music luminaries such as Allen Toussaint, Irma Thomas, Dr. John, Sting, Jennifer Hudson and John Fogerty. Before launching her solo career, she toured with influential New Orleans funk powerhouse Galactic as their vocalist.

She’s currently touring extensively on her own with performances scheduled at French Quarter Fest on April 23, Baton Rouge Blues Fest April 24, and Jazz Fest on May 6. Falls will also be playing a series of night-time shows during Jazz Fest including Daze Between on May 3 at The Faubourg Brewery and as part of The Daze Between Band at Tipitina’s on May 4.
