When Your FB Name is LettuceFunk…

There is a reason that the New York-based sextet Lettuce uses the Facebook name LettuceFunk. Because. That. Is. What. They. Do.

This summer, this funk juggernaut will celebrate 30 years making mind-blowing music spanning jazz, funk, rock, hip hop, soul, and whatever else they want to play.

The first leg of their Unity tour begins tonight, Friday, March 24, at Jannus Live in St. Petersburg. It is the first of 22 shows all up and down the East Coast before jetting out to the Mill Valley Music Festival in California. Then festival season starts in earnest Memorial Day weekend through the end of August with 13 fest appearances plus a pair of shows. You name it; they’ll FUNK it up!

The European tour (September-October) runs just over a month with 25 dates all over the continent. There is no supply chain problem getting Lettuce!

Lettuce are: Erick “E.D.” [Jesus] Coomes, bass guitar; Adam Deitch, drums, percussion; Adam “Shmeeans” Smirnoff, guitar; Ryan Zoidis, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone; Eric “Benny” Bloom, trumpet; and Nigel Hall, vocals, Hammond B-3 organ, clavinet, piano. Coomes, Deitch, Smirnoff, and Zoidis have been with the group since its inception. Bloom joined the crew in 2011, Hall in 2006.

To quote head Funkateer George Clinton, “If anybody gets funked up (it’s gonna be YOU)!”
