Funk It Up at The Fred Sets Stage for Funky Good Time in Paradise With All-Star Lineup

Funk It Up at The Fred is calling music lovers to the crystalline shores of St. Croix, USVI this May for five days of funk and soul served up by the genres’ masters including legendary bassist George Porter Jr. of The Meters, drummer Adam Deitch, guitarist Adam Smirnoff, and trumpeter Eric “Benny” Bloom (half of  psych-funk powerhouse Lettuce); and soul sister and drummer extraordinaire Nikki Glaspie from The Nth Power.

Set to take place May 19-23 at The Fred in  Frederiksted, the destination event will also feature keyboardist CR Gruver (New Orleans Suspects), singer Micah Munro, saxophonist Skerik (Garage A Trois), guitarist Ella Feingold (Silk Sonic, Erykah Badu), bassist Tonya Sweets (Lizzo, Klymaxx), pianist Drin Elliot (The Jacksons), percussionist Marcie Chapa (Beyonce), saxophonist Katty Rodriguez (Beyonce, Jay-Z), and vocalist and queen of Neo-Soul Erica Falls.

With the Caribbean’s azure waters as a backdrop, revelers can funk it up for four full nights of music including performances by Super Sonic Shorties, an all-female super group made up of some of the fiercest women in the business with Nikki Glaspie, Ella Feingold, Tonya Sweets, Drin Elliot, Marcie Chapa, Katty Rodriguez and Erica Falls. Fans will also be treated to the Funky Force Ensemble comprised of George Porter, Jr., Adam Deitch, Adam Smirnoff, Benny Bloom, Micah Munro, and Sherik. Count on more surprises and collaborations to pop up during the event with a full schedule to be released in the coming months.

Funk It Up at the Fred promises fans an intimate and relaxed atmosphere at the host hotel The Fred, a small, eco-friendly, beachfront resort. While rooms at The Fred sold out quickly, attendees can still book its sister hotel The Carambola Beach Resort via the event’s official website.
