Tank and The Bangas Return With Fresh Album “Red Balloon” and New Single/Video “No ID”: Listen/Watch
Tank and The Bangas barrel into 2022 with Red Balloon, a new studio album set for release via Verve Forecast on May 13. The Best New Artist Grammy nominees also gave fans a tantalizing peek under the hood of their latest work with the unveiling of “No ID,” the record’s first single, along with an accompanying video.
Predominantly produced by Tank and The Bangas, the 16-track album was recorded at Bangaville Studios in New Orleans and Revival Studios in Los Angeles. Red Balloon features contributions from music world notables including Alex Isley, Masego, Questlove, Lalah Hathaway, Big Freedia, Jacob Collier, Trombone Shorty, Jamison Ross, The Hamiltones, Georgia Anne Muldrow and Wayne Brady.
The band’s third studio release after 2019’s Green Balloon and the 2021 EP Friend Goals, Red Balloon was forged during a pandemic-imposed break from relentless touring. The hiatus gave the band space to breathe and double down on who they are as artists, allowing them to coalesce as a more unified group. The new work has evolved and pushes the band to a new level, shedding light on their unique observations and songwriting reflecting on the ills of America while also celebrating the beauty of Black life, according to a publicity materials announcing the forthcoming LP. Fans can pre-order or pre-save the record HERE.

“This has been one of the best attempts thus far at capturing what happens when we’re all playing at the same time,” noted Tank and The Bangas in a press release. “Red Balloon is coming straight for your heart and your neck. It’s going to make you bop and think and love, hopefully, and even love people that look different.”
And if Red Balloon’s “No ID” is any indication of the caliber of music on the rest of the album, fans are in for an absolute treat. The new single is a retro delight brimming with ’70s-inspired disco beats. Directed and edited by Phillip Youmans, the accompanying video takes place in a roller rink with Tank and The Bangas channeling the sonic heart of Chic and Rose Royce while revelers skate around them. True to form, the band instigates a rollicking party. Check out the video for “No ID” below.
Based in New Orleans, Tank and The Bangas are Tarriona “Tank” Ball (front woman, lead vocals), Albert Allenback (alto saxophone, flute), Joshua Johnson (drums) and Norman Spence (keys). The band’s unstoppable rise began in 2017 following their unanimous NPR Music Tiny Desk Contest victory. The buzz surrounding them hasn’t abated since. They’ve also appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Austin City Limits and TODAY and have performed at venues and festivals around the world including Coachella, Glastonbury, Bonnaroo, Suwannee Hulaween, Newport Jazz Festival, and numerous others.

Fans can also catch the band on the road in February and when they embark on an extensive run of spring tour dates with Cory Henry. Kicking off on March 9, the U.S. tour includes performances at New York’s Webster Hall, DC’s 9:30 Club, Nashville’s Brooklyn Bowl, Philadelphia’s Union Transfer, Chicago’s House Of Blues, and more.
