Il Divo Announce Tour Continuation Just Weeks After Carlos Marín’s Death

Famed international crossover vocal group Il Divo announced the continuation of the group’s U.S. tour despite the recent passing of longtime founding member Carlos Marín on December 19. The three remaining members — David MillerSébastien Izambard, and Urs Bühler — announced they have added Mexican-American baritone Steven LaBrie as a special guest to sing in all the remaining shows. The current leg of the U.S. tour had been billed under the title “For Once in My Life Tour” and has been rebranded as the “Greatest Hits” tour to honor the legacy of pop-operatic baritone Marín, who died in the United Kingdom just days before Christmas.

The “Greatest Hits” tour will continue with previously scheduled shows starting on February 2 in San Jose, California, and carry the supergroup across North America on an 11-date run that will conclude on February 27 in Miami, Florida.

The German-born Marín died on December 19, 2021, after getting sick while performing in the United Kingdom. He entered the intensive care unit of the Manchester Royal Hospital and did not recover after being intubated and treated for COVID-19. Marín died 11 days later, and his body was returned to Spain where he spent his formative years, becoming a television sensation before joining Il Divo. A funeral service for Carlos Marín was held on December 28 in Madrid.

Since forming the group in 2003, Il Divo have released ten studio albums, selling in excess of 30 million copies, reaching gold and platinum status worldwide. The supergroup was formed by English television personality Simon Cowel (American Idol, The X Factor, America’s Got Talent): four classically trained singers from Switzerland, Spain, France, and the United States who became a touring group performing to sold-out audiences worldwide.
