Korn Releases New Single “Start the Healing” Ahead of 14th Studio Album
Legendary nu-metal trailblazers Korn announced that the band’s 14th studio album, Requiem, will be unveiled on February 4. With the announcement of the new album comes the release of the first single, “Start the Healing,” along with an accompanying video that has already been viewed more than a half million times in the first 24 hours.
The new tune takes longtime fans of the California-based rockers back to their roots and the early hard-driving sound the band established for itself in 1993. “Start the Healing” starts off with a series of furious guitar riffs, then lead vocalist Jonathan Davis jumps in with throaty, yet easy-to-follow catchy vocals before he launches into the solid grinder-like sound that we are accustomed to hearing from him. The song continues through a series of relentless drum-pounding flurries by drummer Ray Luzier, who has played on Korn’s last six albums. Original Korn bassist Reginald “Fieldy” Arvizu is taking some time away from the band to “heal” from some personal problems, leaving open the opportunity for Suicidal Tendencies’ bassist Ra Diaz to fill in on the new album; he toured with the band during summer’s headlining tour.
Korn is backed up by the band’s incredible body of work, with thirteen studio releases cataloging a musical progression that has somehow never strayed from the original path of sonic concoction that created the band’s unique nu-metal sound.
