Phil Lesh & Friends at The Capitol Theatre — A Residency
Somewhere between the time that the four surviving members of The Grateful Dead toured as The Other Ones and as The Dead, a remarkable album was released: Phil Lesh & Friends — There and Back Again. The album gave us eleven great tracks, most importantly “Night of a Thousand Stars” and the soul-piercing “Patchwork Quilt.” The limited edition included a second CD with 52 minutes of live music from this group, highlighted by a 25+ minute “Dark Star.”
And who was in this quintet? Lesh, of course, with John Molo on drums, Rob Barraco on keyboards, and the stunning pairing of Warren Haynes and Jimmy Herring on guitars. DAMN!
Lesh is “puttin’ the band back together” for the first of a three three-night runs at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester. The first, October 11-13, with feature The Phil Lesh Quintet, known as “The Q.”
October 18-20 it will be Phil Lesh & Friends with a bunch of friends, including Stuart Bogie, Eric D. Johnson, Josh Kaufman, Grahame Lesh (Lesh’s son), Joe Russo, Benmont Tench, Amy Helm (10/18 & 10/20), and Elliot Peck (10/19).
Those are Monday through Wednesday dates. To finish off the residency, Lesh will welcome Taylor Goldsmith, Trevor Menear, Griffin Goldmsith, and Lee Pardini, all members of Dawes, for October 29 through Halloween. Also scheduled are Grahame Lesh, Nicki Bluhm, and M.C. Taylor (Hiss Golden Messenger, 10/29 & 10/30). Teresa Williams and Larry Campbell will join the party on Halloween.
All shows are sold out, and resale tickets are astronomically what you would expect. Let’s hope these will be livestreamed. The Music Never Stopped.
