Fugees Postpone Reunion Tour

Alternative hip hop trio Fugees are postponing their 25th anniversary reunion tour, the band announced on Friday (October 29). The announcement came via the band’s Instagram social media post that stated; “to ensure the best chance that all cities on the tour will be fully open so we can perform for as many fans as possible.”

The tour was announced in September with the expectation that it would reunite all three original members Ms. Lauryn Hill, Wyclef Jean, and Pras Michel as a commemoration of the 25th anniversary of their celebrated second album The Score. The trio were scheduled to kickoff their 12-date arena-only tour starting on Tuesday, November 2 in Chicago. With the postponement announcement, the group also stated that they will be “adding more cities and dates.”

In the mid-90’s, the Fugees became a notable name across the entire music spectrum; However, they faced well-publicized internal conflicts, becoming plagued with creative differences, and making public promises that they would never work together again. Since then each artist has worked on solo projects and collaborations. In 2005, the trio had several short-lived attempts at reuniting with several one-off performances, again leading to failed tours, leaving long-time fans of the hip hop collective in limbo.

The group’s greatest success came in 1996 when the trio released their second studio album, The Score, that included two of the band’s biggest hits: “Killing Me Softly with His Song” and “Ready or Not.” The album sold over 20 million copies worldwide propelling them to the top of the hip hop world, winning the group two Grammy Awards.

Studio Albums: Blunted on Reality (1994) and The Score (1996)
