Former Queensrÿche Frontman Geoff Tate Impressive on Current Tour

The amount of chatter across social media these days as to which ’80s rock lead vocalists still remain vocally competent and which no longer have the pipes seems to be a familiar topic of discussion of late. Geoff Tate, former frontman for heavy metal rock band Queensrÿche, who joined the band in 1981, went on to major success as lead vocalist with his former bandmates until Queensrÿche and he parted ways in 2012. It has been nearly a decade since that departure, and quite a bit has been said by both sides, but what remains clear is that Geoff Tate is the voice of Queensrÿche, just as Lou Gramm will forever be the voice of Foreigner, regardless of who fronts the band.

Progressive metal rocker Geoff Tate whose storied career has extended nearly three decades, is currently celebrating his 30th Anniversary of Empire Tour  with his band Operation: Mindcrime comprised of Scott Moughton (guitar), Kieran Robertson (guitar), Jack Ross (bass), Josh Watts (drums) and Bruno Sa (keyboards).

Based on recent concert videos posted by concertgoers on Youtube, there is little doubt that Tate has retained his vocal prowess as he continues to deliver a solid set nightly. The ongoing tour celebrates two of Queensrÿche’s most commercially successful albums: Rage for Order (1986) and the band’s most successful album, Empire (1990). On this tour, Tate performs these two classic albums in their entirety. The current trek will include a six-night Florida run starting on September 23 in Pensacola. The tour continues tonight (September 19) at The Machine Shop Concert Lounge in Flint, Michigan, with the tour wrapping up on November 22 in Salt Lake. Providing support on the tour is multi-versed musician and filmmaker Kurt Deimer.
