Newport Jazz Festival Unveils Brilliant 2021 Lineup
After being sidelined last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, The Newport Jazz Festival unveiled an eye-popping, eclectic lineup for its 2021 edition headlined by Wynton Marsalis, Andra Day and Khruangbin. Set for July 30-August 1, the iconic event returns to historic Fort Adams State Park in Newport, Rhode Island, for three days of jazz, rhythm and blues, funk, and jams.

The festival’s headliners will perform alongside 19 other acts, including four-time Grammy-nominated singer Yola, gospel legend Mavis Staples, and New Orleans funk/R&B/rock powerhouse Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue. Newport Jazz Festival’s Artist-In-Residence and Grammy Award-winner Robert Glasper will perform all three days. Newport Jazz Artistic Director Christian McBride will perform as a solo artist and as a member of Jam Jawn, a supergroup featuring McBride, guitarist John Scofield, pianist Marco Benevento and drummer Joe Russo.

According to a Newport Jazz Festival press release, event organizers are waiting to publish any safety protocols in full detail as the conditions of the pandemic continue to evolve and trend positively. The release also noted that there will most likely be some health protocols in place, such as proof of vaccination, a negative COVID test, temperature tests, social distancing, and mask-wearing.
