Nine Inch Nails, Smashing Pumpkins, Run the Jewels, Faith No More Headline Riot Fest

For well over a year, festival-goers have been anxiously awaiting the return of live-in person concerts after the global pandemic forced musicians and fans to take 2020 off. With the Coronavirus now in the rear view mirror, announcements for concerts and music festivals have been coming at a rapid-fire pace. Those in and around the Chicagoland area will have plenty to choose from this fall. The return of concerts includes the return of the biggest music festivals in the nation that take place in the windy city. Lollapalooza just announced their lineup for July 29-August 1. And now the return of Riot Fest brings a steady stable of rock, ska, punk, and alternative among other genres in the rock category to Douglass Park on Chicago’s west side September 17-19.

Nine Inch Nails

My Chemical Romance was supposed to headline the festival in 2020 and of course the Covid-19 pandemic put a kibosh to those plans, then they were again announced as the headliner for 2021, but, after careful consideration, they made the decision to postpone their reunion tour, the silver lining is that they will play Riot Fest in 2022. A headliner was needed to fill the massive void and fortunately Riot Fest was able to fill the gap with industrial rockers Nine Inch Nails.

On Wednesday a huge wave of lineup additions was posted. Nine Inch Nails, Run The Jewels, Faith No More, and The Smashing Pumpkins head up the fest’s monster roster — a healthy mix of punk, pop, rock, rap, folk, electronica and more. GWAR is back! And local talent is on board with rapper Vic Mensa, indie rockers Beach Bunny, and punk rockers The Lawrence Arms on the roster.

Faith No More

While passes for the 2021 festival sold out quickly, single-day passes and even more bands will be announced next week. Three-day passes for the Sept. 16-18, 2022, Riot Fest are also on sale now, starting at $155. So far, only My Chemical Romance has been announced for next year’s festival. Riot Fest is allowing 2021 ticket-holders to transfer passes to 2022. Click this link for more information.
