Swamptown Getdown Music & Arts Festival Set for March 26-27
Swamptown Getdown Music and Arts Festival, held annually in Waycross GA, is a celebration of music from all over the Southeastern U.S. A wide range of genres await you at Swamptown. Last year’s festival, March 12-14, was one of the very last events anywhere before the pandemic tsunami. This year’s event, March 26 & 27, is scaled back to address safety protocols.
NOTE: DUE TO COVID PROTOCOLS, THERE WILL BE NO INDIVIDUAL TICKET SALES THIS YEAR. WE URGE YOU TO GATHER UP 3 MORE LIKE-MINDED MUSIC-LOVING FAMILY MEMBERS OR FRIENDS AND SHARE A 10’x10′ AUDIENCE POD SPACE.
The Okefenokee Fairgrounds in Waycross is your home for two days of fabulous music again this year. Let’s look at the lineup.
Bobby Lee Rodgers is one of the best guitar players you might never have seen or even heard of. He can — and does — do it all: classical, jazz, bluegrass, rock. He is a fine vocalist, great songwriter, and music mentor to dozens of young musicians over the years. He first attracted attention with Col. Bruce Hampton (Ret.) in The Codetalkers and has played with an amazing array of A-listers, but he works best in the trio setting, pushing his rhythm section to great heights.
Bonnie Blue honor the Southern tradition of music that came out of Macon and Capricorn records, but their sound is distinctly all their own. They are at the forefront of the incredible musical explosion coming out of Jacksonville.
The reason that Pine Box Dwellers (think about that name just a moment) are on the lineup isn’t because they are Waycross born and bred; it’s because they play AWESOME Swampadelic country rock! And other songwriters heap praise upon Sean Clark, a true songsmith.
And, if you’re talking about longevity, look no furthur than Glass Camels, who have been on the Grateful Dead path since 1989!
The remainder of the lineup is jammed with great music from Dirty Bird & the Flu, Heart of Pine, Josh Kirkland Trio, Lazy Lightning, Martez, Michaele & the Ambiguous, One Good Ring, Page Brothers Band, Stephan Pigman, Them Vagabonds, Cheating Alethia, and Thunderbird.
Do yourself a favor. Give Swamptown Getdown a try; you’ll be very glad you did!
