Big Sam’s Funky Nation Celebrates Mardi Gras with Release of New Video “Mardi Gras in New Orleans”: Watch

Mardi Gras may have been put on hold this year due COVID-19, but Big Sam’s Funky Nation has found a way to keep the spirit of the season alive with their newly released video “Mardi Gras in New Orleans” featuring some of the city’s most colorful characters. Shot by Dragon, the video showcases legendary Mardi Gras Indians Bo Dollis, Jr. and The Wild Magnolias, singer Anjelika Joseph (Galactic/Tank and The Bangas), multi-instrumentalist Jerry Henderson (Jon Cleary/Phat Hat), trumpeter Drew Baham (Stooges Brass Band), and more.

With “Mardi Gras in New Orleans,” Big Sam, the perpetually funky bandleader and master trombonist, and his equally funky bandmates dazzle with a  dance-inducing kaleidoscope celebrating the indomitable spirit of New Orleans and Mardi Gras, the oldest life-affirming bacchanal in the U.S.  The video is the latest in a long line of virtual musical creations, including Big Sam’s Funky Nation’s “Quarantine Driveway Series” shot in front of Big Sam’s New Orleans home, which caught the attention of national media, including The Washington Post and The Wall Street Journal.
