“Tetrao Urogallus” by Tetrao Urogallus: Almost Beyond Description
Your mission, should you decide to accept it, is to determine how you would classify the new single from Tetrao Urogallus titled “Tetrao Urogallus.” We certainly aren’t sure. They could be Afrobeat, doom metal, psychedelic rock, funk-rock, proto metal, something altogether different, or an amalgam of those styles. The only thing we know is that we like it. A lot. This is their debut single on Color Red Music.
Through this track, the concept of the band was born, as the title is Latin for ‘wood grouse,’ and all subsequent tracks are Latin terms for flora and fauna. The mystical sounds in “Tetrao Urogallus” reflect a gloomy forest atmosphere through which the capercaillie makes its daily rounds. Collaborators David Nesselhauf and Dennis Rux have worked together in several projects, and the two are able to pursue their love for dark souls, fuzzy guitars, and captivating brass sections in Tetrao Urogallus.
David and Dennis have been working on different projects around funk and soul for years. With Tetrao Urogallus they wanted to finally pursue an inner urge for dark sounds and combine it with their influences. Groovy sounds with fuzzy guitars and an unbeatable brass section. They met for a jam/recording-session to see how it goes. In the end the self-titled debut album Tetrao Urogallus was born on one weekend.
Tetrao Urogallus are: Dennis Rux, electric guitar; David Nesselhauf, bass guitars (all types); Corneel Canters, drums; Carsten Meyer, electric organ, synthesizer; Hans-Christian Stephan, trumpet; and Kimo Eiserbeck, saxophone. The album was produced by Rux, who also did the tracking and mixing at Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Studios. It was mastered at Doug Krebs Mastering.
