Senri Kawaguchi: Whirlwind at the Drum Kit
We are definitely late to the party here. Drumeo just posted several videos of a remarkable young lady who will simply bowl you over with her prowess on the drum kit. Her name is Senri Kawaguchi, and her forte is jazz fusion, and we are all so blessed for that. She recorded her first album A La Mode at 16, the second, Buena Vista. Her third solo album, in 2016, was Cider Hard and Sweet.
Kawaguchi, now 23, has also recorded five albums with KIYO*SEN, the first in 2014. There are DVD recordings of her playing live as a solo artists and with KIYO*SEN.
Her current trio is, appropriately, Triangle, featuring Philippe Saisse on keyboard and Armand Sabal-Lecco on bass. This track, “Wupatki,” will knock you out.
Kawaguchi, from Japan, has performed with dozens of world-class musicians such as David Sanborn, Bootsy Collins, Lee Ritenour, E-girls, Philip Seth and Guthrie Govan. She plays Yamaha Drums, Zildjian Cymbals and Zildjian Drumsticks.
This KIYO*SEN video was recorded in 2014, when she was 17.
