Black Bird Hum Deliver Reggae Australian-Style

Delightful new track “My Side” from Australian collective Black Bird Hum has debuted on Color Red Music. If it seems like Sydney is a long way from Color Red’s Denver home, know that the label Eddie Roberts of The New Mastersounds created two years ago now has outposts in Japan and Madrid, and we suspect more will exist before long.

Black Bird Hum offers two versions of their new single: “My Side” and “My Side Dub.” Their press release notes:

“My Side” is a true road-tested song  built around an infectious horn line composed by trombonist Greg Chilcott. The “love-gone-wrong” track marks the introduction of vocalist Little Green stepping out as a leading force with her resonant, ethereal vocals over the band’s deep pocket and carefree grooves. Black Bird Hum is the inaugural Sydney-based band in the Color Red network, as drummer Jeff Reiss was a staple in the Denver music scene performing with fellow Color Red artists ATOMGA before relocating to sunny Sydney.

The groove is infectious, and we are sure to hear more from them soon!

Black Bird Hum are: Jon Panic, electric guitar, vocals; Amy Nelson, vocals, flute; Freyja Garbett, keyboards; Nish Manjunath, saxophone; Jake Mcdougall, electric guitar; Nick Calligeros, trumpet; Greg Chilcott, trombone; Jeff Reiss, drums; and Tim Sampson, electric bass guitar. The

session was produced by Panic, and the mixing engineer was Ryan Gambrell. Doug Krebs was the mastering engineer.

Rootfire debuted this track, and their article contains a great look at Color Red Music plus the transcript of a full interview with Jon Panic. Link is below. Hear both tracks on the Color Red link.
