Dance to New Freekbass Single “Runaway” with Sammi Garett

Freekbass has been a force of nature for a long time, but he really upped the ante when he joined forces last year with Eddie RobertsColor Red Music and the outstanding All the Way This. All The Way That. album that debuted a year ago. Freekbass & The Bump Assembly return with brand new single “Runaway.”

The band returned to Denver for their second session at Color Red Studios with the label/media platform’s founder, Eddie Roberts (of The New Mastersounds) at the helm to produce and engineer the album. Building upon their foundation and camaraderie of their first session recording in November 2018, Roberts helped the band elevate their futuristic sound and hone in on what elements define it. Freekbass explains:

“Runaway” had a distinct blueprint we were going for with feel, groove, and sound. Eddie said to think of the sound of those early Cameo albums which painted a perfect picture. As with everything, whatever we grab from the past, we try to pull it into the future, this track feels like we accomplished that. Moving our sound forward, while living in the Funk we are so familiar with.

The live band features Freekbass on bass, Sammi Garett (Turkuaz) on vocals, Sky White on Keyboards, and Rico Lewis on drums, and they stand astride both past and future while — fortunately for us — are right here in the present. This is a perfect dance track, beginning immediately with that nasty bass and Garett’s superb vocals. White’s keyboards swirl around in the background, Lewis perfectly punctuating the track. The vocal chorus with Garett in front and Freekbass in the back is awesome. Also, that bass…

Freekbass will continue releasing one track a month for the next four months, culminating in an EP to be released in November. Freekbass & The Bump Assembly will follow up the release of “Runaway” with a music video to be released later this month.
