New Star Kitchen Single “Entirely” is HERE!
“Entirely’ is ready entirely ready for your ears! We know you’ll enjoy it. Danny Mayer kicks the track off with some chunky funky James Brown guitar. As Star Kitchen works into the tune, Mayer and Rob Marscher on Hammond B3 trade stanzas. After the chorus, that guitar solo could only be the amazing Eddie Roberts. Marscher has another feature before Mayer rips a huge solo. Meanwhile, all that fat bass is pouring out of Marc Brownstein, and Marlon Lewis is a beast on drum kit! HELL, YES, we’re ready for a whole album of this stuff!
ORIGINAL POST WEDNESDAY:
During a chance sit-down with Marc Brownstein on Jam Cruise 2018, the Disco Biscuits bass master talked about a new project he was developing called Star Kitchen. The group gelled, played some shows in the fall, and blew out two great shows on Jam Cruise 2019. The jam and funk community has embraced Star Kitchen with open arms, evidenced again by their great reception at Suwannee Hulaween last October.
Finally we are getting some recorded music from them (there is plenty of live stuff out there you need to check out). The first single, “Eternity,” will be released Friday, July 17, on Color Red Music, the label from Denver put together by Eddie Roberts. This magical psychedelic funk quartet have blown up the studio and will present a series of releases on Color Red throughout 2020.
Star Kitchen are: Danny Mayer, guitar; Rob Marscher, keyboards; Marc Brownstein, bass; and Marlon Lewis, drums, straight outta Philly. They explain the creation of the track:
On an early 2020 Colorado run anchored with Live for Live Music’s Denver Comes Alive, the band had a few days off and it was a natural fit to stop into Color Red Studios and lay down a few tracks to tape in the old-school, analog setting. During the sessions, bassist Marc Brownstein was recovering from eye surgery, but that didn’t stop him from being a trooper and seamlessly laying down grooving bass lines and pitching ideas during the band’s writing sessions. All songs were composed and arranged in the studio. “Entirely” was arranged in about 30 minutes and showcases an array of influences ranging from Jimi Hendrix, Phish, James Brown, and more. Produced by Josh Fairman, the band then passed the track to Color Red founder/New Mastersounds’ guitarist Eddie Roberts to guest on guitar and Nate Werth of Ghost-Note/Snarky Puppy to overdub percussion parts.
This is simply glorious funk. Roberts solos first, then Mayer, and the combination of Lewis on drums and Werth on percussion is incredible. Watch this space Friday. We can’t wait to share this new track with you.
