Suwannee at Home: Spirit Raiser 2020 Set to Lift Spirits with Virtual Fundraiser
For the thousands upon thousands of music fans who’ve ever set foot in The Spirit of Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak, Florida, magic is real and is dearly missed after the music was silenced for now due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. But now, in an attempt to lift spirits and keep fans connected to this beloved gathering place, Live Oak Music & Arts Foundation, in collaboration with Relix Magazine, is taking the park’s magic into cyberspace with Suwannee at Home: Spirit Raiser 2020, which will take place May 15-17. The virtual festival will also be raising funds for out-of-work support staff who have been financially devastated by the pandemic.
The festival will feature a veritable who’s who of artists from the jam, bluegrass, Americana, and jamtronica scenes who have been fixtures at the park, appearing there numerous times over the years. Big Gigantic, Snarky Puppy, Umphrey’s McGee, Keller Williams, Leftover Salmon, George Porter, Jr., Dumpstaphunk, The Nth Power, Donna The Buffalo and many more are slated to appear at the on-line event. They’ll be performing live or sending in pre-recorded content from their shelter-in-place locations. The sets will air live on Zoom via Facebook and Suwannee Spirit Raiser website. The segments will range from brief cameos to 30-minute slots, some with question-and-answer periods.
Fans are being asked to participate by sharing their experiences about what SOSMP means to them. Organizers are encouraging them to send a short video telling their stories through a poem, live art, straight storytelling, or other creative vehicles.
Suwannee at Home: Spirit Raiser 2020 is being hosted by Suwannee Rising co-producers Beth Judy (Suwannee Spring Reunion, Suwannee Roots Revival) and Paul Levine (Suwannee Hulaween, Purple Hatters Ball). Presenters Live Oak Music & Arts Foundation, a non-profit organization 501 (c)3 formed for the purpose of educating and providing charitable assistance to the North Florida community in music and other art forms, will be collecting and distributing donations and funds raised from any merchandise sold for the event.
